Rural retreat by a trulli village {Acquarossa - Puglia}

{Treats}: Yesterday was a stressful day and to make it less miserable in the evening I headed South London to pay a visit to an Italian Delicatessen, just to pick a couple of treats. To my surprise the owner of the shop has sold the licence and decided to go for clearer skies in Southern Italy where he bought a trullo, in the area of Alberobello. I have always been fascinated by the charming stone buildings and their conical roofs. Trulli are typical of the area of Puglia. Originally they were built without any cement or mortar, theoretically to avoid taxation and though to be used as temporary shelters by shepherds or farmers.

The idea of living in these historical buildings left me rather fascinated and on my return home I made a point of considering renting a trullo for my next vacation, and I think I have found what I was looking for:

Acquarossa is located in the hills above the Valle d'Itria, surrounded by olive groves and orchards with the sea on the doorstep. Trulli are available for hire and the price includes breakfast. The owners of Acquarossa has undertaken a major restoration project before opening Acquarossa since the village of trulli was left abandoned for many years. I admire the owners' work and the honourable idea of giving new life to an abandoned paradise.
